Reasons to retire in the Dominican Republic in 2022.

Retire in the Dominican Republic? You won’t regret it!
The Dominican Republic is one of the top three destinations to retire, with Panama and Portugal. Island living is attractive as it is a chance to escape the cold weather, enjoy the tropical climate all year round, and take advantage of the reduced cost of living compared to the one in North America and Europe.
One of the highlights of moving to the country is all the available direct flights to these countries (USA, Canada, Germany, France, to name a few), provided by six international airports.

Even though Spanish is the local language, English is spoken by everybody, thanks to tourism and the large ex-pat community that already lives on the island. Television is in English, grocery stores import most of their products, and also access to the local healthcare system is easy thanks to the many insurance companies and plans you can choose from.

The Dominican Republic and its North Coast are stunning, with access to many beautiful beaches, and the surrounding landscape diversity that varies from mountain to hills, to the wild jungle, all the way to urban areas.

These towns offer international services, such as restaurants, schools, water sports and activities, resort-like gated communities, along with accessible healthcare.

Residence Visa

To retire to the Dominican Republic, you are required to have Dominican residence. The first thing to do to get started with this process is to collect all required documents in the DR embassy in your home country. These documents shall include proof of retirement benefits of $1,500 a month.

Finally, the embassy stamps your passport with a residence visa and you have 90 days to come to the country and apply for temporary residence in the Migration Department, making sure you renew it annually. Only after four years does it become permanent.
